Apple Introduces Satellite-Powered Roadside Assistance for iPhone 14 and 15 Users in the US

This functionality allows users to request roadside assistance even when they're in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, addressing scenarios like being locked out of the car, encountering a flat tire, or running out of fuel or charge.

Apple has introduced a new roadside assistance feature via satellite for users of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15, or iPhone 15 Pro devices in the United States.

This functionality allows users to request roadside assistance even when they're in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, addressing scenarios like being locked out of the car, encountering a flat tire, or running out of fuel or charge.

In their support page, Apple explained that users can contact a roadside service provider via satellite for assistance. However, for a successful satellite connection, users must be outdoors with an unobstructed view of the sky and horizon. They clarified that the experience of using satellite connectivity differs from standard cellular communication.

To utilize this feature, iPhone users need to have iOS 17 or later to connect with AAA for roadside assistance. For Verizon's roadside assistance, iOS 17.2 or later and a Verizon SIM are required.

To request roadside assistance via satellite, users can access the Messages app, initiate a new conversation, and enter "Roadside" in the address field. When there's no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage, the option to request roadside assistance via satellite will appear. Users can then select "roadside assistance" and follow the onscreen instructions to connect to a satellite and request help.

Apple also mentioned that international travelers visiting the US can use this feature during their visit, except in cases where they purchased their iPhone in specific countries or regions.
