Apple clocks another record quarter growth in India, more stores soon, Says Tim Cook

Describing during the company's earnings call with analysts, Cook mentioned that this increase was driven by double-digit, strong growth in key product segments, such as iPhone, Mac, and Services.

Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that the technology giant notched up record-breaking revenue in the June quarter in over 24 countries and regions, with India being one of the top performers.

Describing during the company's earnings call with analysts, Cook mentioned that this increase was driven by double-digit, strong growth in key product segments, such as iPhone, Mac, and Services.

"Worldwide, we witnessed an increase in growth within the majority of markets that we follow. We witnessed iPhone growth across all geographic segments and double-digit growth in emerging markets such as India, the Middle East, South Asia, and Brazil," Cook said.

The Mac business saw a 15% year-over-year revenue increase over the same quarter last year, and the Services business reached an all-time revenue record with 13% growth. Cook stated that this growth was consistent in both emerging and developed markets.

Apple's global expansion is on-going as well, with Cook confirming the opening of Apple Store online in Saudi Arabia. "We couldn't be more excited to open new stores in the UAE and India later this year," he further noted, referring to the firm's increasing presence in the major markets around the world.

Tarun Pathak, Counterpoint Research Director, seconded these views, saying Apple's performance in India reached a new high during the June quarter, with double-digit revenue growth. "iPhone took 7 per cent volume and 23 per cent revenue share as per Counterpoint in the quarter, and the iPhone 16 was the highest-shipped model in the region, a key contributor to this momentum," Pathak informed IANS.

One of the quarter's highlights was a change in iPhone manufacturing dynamics. Cook announced that the majority of iPhones being sold in the U.S. now have India listed as their 'Country of Origin'. Facilitating this trend, Counterpoint stated that India's contribution to U.S.-bound shipments of iPhones rose to 71% during Q2, an increase from merely 31% for the same period last year.

Down the road, Pathak mentioned Apple's ambitions to continue building out its India business with more retail store openings—a thrust at the core of its general channel expansion strategy in the country.

On the trade front, Cook talked about tariffs and mentioned that the company incurred around $800 million in tariff costs in the June quarter. "In the September quarter, with current global tariff rates, policies, and applications unchanged, and no new tariffs added, we estimate the impact to add approximately $1.1 billion in cost," he said.

Nonetheless, Cook warned against applying this projection to forecast the future, considering the uncertainty of international trade policies.
