Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday that he was baffled by strange events unfolding at Tesla's gigafactory near Berlin, where about 800 activists descended upon the site in protest against the company's expansion. Law enforcement sprayed pepper spray and tried to keep the protesters away from breaching the plant's perimeter.
Musk posted on X, "There is more to it here than meets the eye. It's really strange." He doubled down with the message that "something super weird" was going on, adding that Tesla seemed to be the only target of the protesters among all the car companies.
Disrupt, an umbrella of anti-capitalist groups organizing the protest, said on its website that 800 activists joined them at what they called the "Disrupt Tesla Action Days" on the Tesla Gigafactory site. Despite the best efforts, however, law enforcement staved off the protesters from breaching the factory premises, which Tesla had shut down for the day to ensure the safety of its employees.
Musk assured stakeholders that protesters didn't breach the factory perimeter. “damage the local environment” as it would require “clearing swathes of the surrounding forest and would further strain local water supply.”
