A massive cyberattack hits X, tracing those behind it, Says Elon Musk

The worldwide blackout made X unusable for several users, making it impossible for them to use the micro-blogging service.

Elon Musk, on Monday, March 10, reported that his social media site, X, had suffered a mass-scale cyberattack that affected millions of users across the globe, including India.

The worldwide blackout made X unusable for several users, making it impossible for them to use the micro-blogging service.

"We are getting attacked daily, but this was accomplished with significant resources. Either a coordinated group of a lot of people and/or a nation is involved. Tracing.," Musk posted.

The tycoon continued to highlight the scope of the attack, writing, "There was (still is) a gigantic cyberattack on X," and hinted that the effort was designed to muzzle him and the site.

X, or the previously named Twitter, was out of commission for millions all day.

DownDetector, an outage tracker website, reported that the disturbance peaked around 3:00 PM.

Some took to other social media platforms to vent their frustration. One person asked, "Is Twitter down? Anyone experiencing the same problem? Can't open comments section."

Another commented, "Thanks for the news. It's unbelievable how much they want to censor free speech."

A third speculated, "Guess someone really doesn't want X to succeed. Wonder who is behind it."

DownDetector saw an enormous surge of reports as the users shifted to alternative sites such as Facebook and Instagram to lodge their complaints.

During the downtime, X went completely unresponsive, not allowing users to post or even load content.

Musk, who acquired X in October 2022 for $44 billion, has kept the platform's operational stability intact, with outages being comparatively infrequent relative to competitors such as Facebook and Instagram.

In the meantime, the tech billionaire recently raised the price of X's Premium+ subscription by a significant amount, raising rates by 35% for new and existing users in India and other international markets.
