Social media site X, owned by Elon Musk, faced a global outage on Monday that impacted users from several countries, including India.
The micro-blogging site, previously Twitter, was unavailable to millions, and the company is yet to make an official announcement regarding the shutdown.
But following a downtime of around 30-40 minutes, the site started coming back online for users in a gradual manner.
As per DownDetector, a service outage tracking website, X registered a considerable increase in outage reports, which peaked at 3:00 PM IST.
One aggrieved user shared, "Is Twitter down? Does anyone else have the same problem? I am unable to access the comments section."
Since X wasn't working, irked users resorted to other social media sites like Facebook and Instagram to complain about the situation and ask for updates.
Users were not able to load the platform, publish content, or even view pages during the outage, rendering X fully inaccessible for some time.
Musk purchased X in 2022 for $44 billion, and the platform has only occasionally experienced major disruptions since then in comparison to alternatives such as Facebook and Instagram.
Concurrently, Musk imposed a steep 35% subscription price increase on X's Premium+ service, which applies to new and old subscribers in India and other regions worldwide.
The premium subscribers in India now shell out ₹1,750 every month, compared to ₹1,300 before—the steep 35% raise. Likewise, the yearly subscription rose from ₹13,600 to ₹18,300.
Even with this increase, the India basic tier subscription is still ₹243 a month, and the standard premium tier is still ₹650.
In the US, X's Premium subscription now costs $22 a month, up from $16, and the annual plan is now $229, up from $168.
