Former Indian cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath has hit out at the selectors for overlooking Ruturaj Gaikwad and not including Rinku Singh in the ODI squad after the impressive performances by the duo in the recent series against Zimbabwe.
Upset that Gaikwad missed out from both T20Is and ODIs in the squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, Badrinath posted a video on social media in which he subtly indicated that great performances alone were not enough to get selected into the Indian team. He also referred to other deciding factors like personal relationships, management of media, and even tattoos.
"Sometimes it seems like you need a bad guy image when the likes of Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad and others are not selected for the Indian team. It seems that you need to be in a relationship with some Bollywood actresses, have a good media manager, and have body tattoos," Badrinath could be heard as saying in the video.
Gaikwad made a statement with his scores of 7, 77, and 49 against Zimbabwe, before being rested for the last T20I. Rinku Singh did a good job in the T20Is against Zimbabwe, where he played important roles in the team's performances.
