Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Youngest Indian to Achieve 1,000 Test Runs in a Calendar Year

Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal became the youngest Indian to score 1000 Test runs in a single calendar year on the second day of the second Test against New Zealand at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium on Friday. The 22-year-old batter surpassed the previous record held by Dilip Vengsarkar who, in 1979, reached 1000 runs at the age of 23.

With three more Tests left in 2024, he has a chance to break some of the most coveted records that Indian legends hold at their heels.

Firstly, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs made by an Indian in a calendar year - 1562 in 14 tests in the year 2010. Virender Sehwag's 1462 runs that he took in one calendar year remain the highest by any Indian opener in one calendar year.
