Wrestling Trials Stir Controversy as Vinesh Withdraws from Two Categories Before Bouts Begin

Prior to this, the Wrestling Federation of India had imposed a temporary ban on the Haryana athlete citing alleged disciplinary issues. However, the federation later rescinded the charges, allowing Vinesh to participate in the World Championship trials.

Star wrestler Vinesh Phogat made the tough decision to withdraw from her second-round trial match at the World Championships due to feeling under the weather during her bout in the 55kg category against Pinki.

Prior to this, the Wrestling Federation of India had imposed a temporary ban on the Haryana athlete citing alleged disciplinary issues. However, the federation later rescinded the charges, allowing Vinesh to participate in the World Championship trials.

Meanwhile, Rio 2016 Olympic Games bronze medalist Sakshi Malik suffered a setback, losing 3-6 to Manisha in the 62kg trials. Sakshi has been grappling with form struggles since last year and notably missed out on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics.

On the men's side, Gaurav Baliyan (79kg), Yash (72kg), Shubham (57kg), and Ravinder (61kg) secured their spots in the World Championships after emerging victorious in their respective trials.

Ravinder (61kg), Naveen (130kg), Sushil (70kg), Sandeep (86kg), and Satyavart (97kg) also clinched berths for the World Championships through their performances in the trials.
