Although Leipzig had more possession of the ball, they struggled to break through Wolfsburg's defense. The hosts had a chance to double their lead, but Cerny's shot was blocked in the 24th minute.

Leipzig's best chance came in the second half when a deflected cross from David Raum hit the left crossbar just two minutes after the break. However, their momentum was halted when Yussuf Poulsen received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 56th minute.

Borussia Monchengladbach defeated Heidenheim 3-1, with Jordan Siebatcheu scoring two goals. Kaiserslautern, a second-division side, pulled off an upset by defeating Cologne 3-2.
