That's the only Test series which Pat Cummins hasn't led a victorious Australian campaign over India, and the first of those has started for the Australian skipper in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth from November 22.
For Pat Cummins, who won the World Test Championship, ODI World Cup, and the Ashes with his side, defeated Indians both times but was unable to claim a victory over India in a two-Test series.
"It's kind of the one big thing that I want to tick off," Cummins said to AAP at the launch of his book on Tuesday. "Particularly winning at home. Most Australians, me included, expect us to do well whenever we play at home," added Cummins, a veteran of 62 Tests.
India are the only team Australia have failed to defeat in their last 16 Test series. Since 2014-15, Australia were not able to lay their hands on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as India have been able to win four series on the trot, which include two epic victories in Australia 2018-19 and 2020-21.
"We have lost the last two series to them in Australia, so this is big. We feel like our team's in a pretty good place, so we have nothing to lose, I think. I just always feel like we should do well to whoever we play. And India, in particular, is a big year and a big season," Cummins said. India remain the only Asian nation to beat Australia at their home in a Test series, but the tourists would be under pressure heading into the marquee tournament with having suffered their first home series loss since 2012 to New Zealand. The pain would be doubled as skipper Rohit Sharma and the talismanic India batter Virat Kohli went without runs.
"I think any time a team's under pressure, it's not a bad thing if you're playing against them. But they've been out here before and performed well. Our job is to try and keep them quiet, see how we go." The five-match series, a part of the World Test Championship, gets underway from November 22 in Perth.
