"Who Wants To Be Bowler Over There?", Pat Cummins Throws Shade at Edgbaston Pitch Following India’s Victory

Australia skipper Pat Cummins couldn't help having a cheeky shot at the Edgbaston pitch after India's record 336-run win over England in the second Test of their five-match series.

India added the runs, leaving England with a huge 608-run target. Even with flat surfaces, the home team could achieve only 271 in their second innings, coming short by a long way and making the series 1-1.

While India and England fought it out for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Australia was fighting out their own series against the West Indies. The Aussies clinched the second Test in Grenada by 133 runs, securing a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

After the match, Cummins was queried regarding Edgbaston's surface where India had registered their dominant victory. Famous for his sarcasm, the Australian captain had a dig at the tame pitch using a timely wisecrack.

"I wasn't. Most likely Marnus was. We'll watch that series closely. Who would want to be a bowler there? Not surprised at all by the fact that it was the third flattest wicket there in the history of England cricket," Cummins said at the press conference.

He compared those conditions to what his side faced at Grenada, and he mentioned the stark contrast between the two grounds.

"See, Test cricket over here compared to Test cricket over there, resembles two different games. Seems like it is going to be good series over there. 1-1. Didn't see much of it but glanced at the scores," he concluded.

With the India-England series heading to its third Test, all attention shifts to Lord's, where proceedings resume on July 10. England head coach Brendon McCullum has already indicated his preferred wickets, suggesting a more bowler-friendly pitch in the next encounter.

McCullum has apparently asked MCC head groundsman Karl McDermott to lay a surface with "a bit more pace, a bit more bounce, and a little bit of sideways," drawing inspiration from the lively conditions witnessed at the recent World Test Championship final, when Pat Cummins and South Africa's Kagiso Rabada shone with the ball.

"It'll be a blockbuster either way, but I believe it's going to lead up to a cracker – particularly if there is plenty of life in it (the pitch)," McCullam said to ESPNcricinfo.
