Warner Bids Farewell: T20 World Cup Marks End of International Career with Australia's Exit

The first impact Warner had was immediate: 89 off 43 balls on his T20I debut against South Africa, which he played faultlessly. He scored a total of 3277 runs in 110 matches, including a century against Pakistan in 2019 that made him the third Australian to get centuries in all three cricket formats—along with 28 half-centuries.

David Warner brought down the curtain on his illustrious 15-year international cricket journey in a rather muted fashion, as Australia's exit from the T20 World Cup was sealed with Afghanistan's victory over Bangladesh in St Vincent. Warner had hinted at this tournament being a swan song of sorts; he brought the curtain down on his international career in piecemeal fashion. The 34-year-old played his last ODI during their successful campaign in India in 2023, and his final Test appearance came against Pakistan early in 2024. His finale was supposed to be the 2024 T20 WC.

At the domestic level, Warner has been vastly successful in franchise T20 cricket, more so in the IPL, where he entered an elite group of individuals that have scored more than 10,000 runs in 2021.

His final match against India was one he departed very humbly from, scoring six runs off six balls while getting caught at slip by Suryakumar Yadav off Arshdeep Singh. In a rather undemonstrative departure from the pitch, he just walked off, not quite realizing this may be his last game. Post-match he was seen deep in conversation with Virat Kohli on the outfield, reflecting on the conclusion of his remarkable career.
