Following India's domineering 50-run win over Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup Super Eight clash, Suryakumar Yadav received the fielder of the match award from West Indies legend Sir Vivian Richards. In difficult windy conditions in Antigua, Suryakumar impressed during the game with a spectacular running catch to dismiss Litton Das.
This was announced by India's fielding coach T Dilip, who brought out reasons ranging from the iconic status Richards enjoys in the cricketing world to his association with fearless playing and charisma on the field. Dilip termed Richards a game-changer who epitomizes the pursuit of greatness in a video shared by the BCCI on social media.
After handing over the best fielder medal to Suryakumar Yadav, Richards jokingly said, "If the guys in Maroon don't get it done, I might have to come back to your room!" He also praised Rishabh Pant for his great comeback after a setback and said that he is happy seeing Pant come out to the field again; he is so immensely talented for the future.
As he signed off, Sir Vivian Richards praised India's performance in the current tournament, admitting that they had indeed batted well so far.
