Rohit Sharma on Sunday said that Hardik Pandya was the difference maker in the entire campaign so far for India at this T20 World Cup, as he can turn matches at any time with his bat and ball.
Pandya had one of the more influential fifties against Bangladesh to not only anchor India toward a commanding victory again but also proving to be a strong booster in the aspiration of their semi-final berth.
This was coupled with his crucial wicket-taking ability and impressive all-round performance as he accumulated 89 runs at 141 when it comes to strike rate with eight wickets in the tournament thus far.
Rohit Sharma, following up on this win, said after the match, “I mentioned in the last game as well, his batting well puts us in a good stead. We want to finish well and Hardik being Hardik we know what he is capable of.”
“He is a very important player for us, if he can keep doing that, it will put us in good positions,” he added.
The captain lauded the entire batting performance of the team, which Kohli, Pant, Dube, and he joined in with valuable knocks to help India post a formidable total of 197.
Reflecting on the strategy adopted by India overall, Rohit Sharma said that every player needs to play his respective role well-adapting and performing collectively.
“All eight batters need to play their role, whatever it is. We saw one guy get 50 and we got 197, in T20 I don't believe we need to get fifties and hundreds, what matters is the pressure you put on the bowlers," he said.
“All the batters from the word go played well and that's how we want to play as well. There is a lot of experience in the squad and we back them,” he added.
At the same time, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto felt that his team lost their intent while chasing and, in fact, admitted to simply not being able to match India's imposing total.
