Soumya's innings is also the highest score by a Bangladesh men's player away from home in an ODI. His contribution propelled Bangladesh to a total of 291 all out in 49.5 overs, marking their highest ODI score in New Zealand.
The left-hander's innings is now the second-best by a Bangladeshi in ODIs after Liton Das' 176 against Zimbabwe. Despite losing early wickets, Soumya found support from Mushfiqur Rahim, who made 45 runs in a partnership of 91.
In the final over of the innings, Soumya was dismissed while attempting to hit a boundary. Youngster William O'Rourke claimed three wickets in the last over, preventing Soumya from breaking Litton Das' record for the highest ODI score by a Bangladesh player.
