Siraj Fined 20% of Match Fee for Aggressive Send-Off to Head in Adelaide

Siraj was fined 20 percent of his match fee. While Head escaped a fine, he was also sanctioned for his verbal exchange with the Indian fast bowler.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday, December 9 announced sanctions for Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head for their on-field spat in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide.

Siraj was fined 20 percent of his match fee. While Head escaped a fine, he was also sanctioned for his verbal exchange with the Indian fast bowler.

Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head have been both docked one demerit point following breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct.

"Siraj has been fined 20% of his match fee after being found guilty of breaching article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal," the ICC said in a statement.

"Head too was banned for violating Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, dealing with 'abuse of a player, player support personnel, umpire or match referee during an international match'. it said.

Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head were involved in a heated on-field exchange after the Indian fast bowler gave an expletive-laden send-off to the Australian batter. Siraj was hit for a six by Head, but in the very next delivery, the Indian pacer bowled a yorker to dismiss the star batter on 140.

Head did not like the send-off and the incident escalated to a war of words.

The crowd at Adelaide Oval didn't like that their local hero was being given a send-off by Siraj and it began booing the Indian pacer relentlessly.
