In the latest update to the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings, India's leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has ascended to the coveted position of the number one bowler. Despite making his international debut just in February 2022, Bishnoi's consistent performances have propelled him to the top spot. The 23-year-old claimed the Player of the Series title during India's recent 4-1 T20I triumph over Australia, securing nine wickets at an average of 18.22.
Bishnoi's remarkable journey began at the ICC Men's Under 19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa in 2020, where he emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 17 wickets. With a total of 34 wickets from 21 T20I matches at an average of 17.38, a strike rate of 14.5, and an economy rate of 7.14, Bishnoi has left an indelible mark on the cricketing world.
His ascent to the top spot has led to a shuffle in the rankings, with Rashid Khan, Adil Rashid, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Maheesh Theekshana all dropping one place inside the top 10. Meanwhile, India's left-arm spin all-rounder Axar Patel has risen 16 places to secure the 11th position in the bowlers' rankings.
In other notable movements, India's left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has surged 16 places to claim the 19th spot in the T20I batters' rankings, closely following his teammate Suryakumar Yadav, who retains the top position. Australia's Travis Head has also made significant strides, improving 16 places to secure the 29th position.
In the ODI rankings, West Indies skipper Shai Hope has climbed four places to the 11th position after scoring his 16th ODI century, while teammate Brandon King has jumped six spots to the 78th position.
The Test rankings remain largely unchanged, with India's off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin leading the bowlers' list, and Kane Williamson retaining the top position in the Test batters' rankings. Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam has achieved a career-best 14th position following his stellar performance, securing a record-high 708 rating points for a Bangladesh bowler.
Additionally, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson has re-entered the Test bowlers' rankings at No.13, and Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has climbed 13 places to secure the 42nd position after his impressive century against New Zealand. Daryl Mitchell, the New Zealand all-rounder, has risen one place to the seventh position in the batters' rankings.
