Rahul has accepted his new role as No.6 batter:, Says Coach Kotak

Rahul had earlier thrived at No. 5, scoring more than 1,000 runs at a healthy average north of 50. But since the ODI series against Sri Lanka in the last year, he has been placed a slot lower in the order.

KL Rahul's transition to No. 6 batting has been extensively debated, but India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak pointed out that the wicketkeeper-batter has taken on the role with complete dedication, adding depth to the team's batting.

Despite the transformation, Rahul has started to cope well with the requirements of his new job. His adaptability was witnessed during the Champions Trophy semifinal match against Australia, where he came up with a calm, unbeaten 42-run knock. Partnering with Hardik Pandya, he added a significant 34-run partnership, wrapping up the game in favor of India.

Kotak appreciated the versatility of Rahul, highlighting his commitment to the team. The right-hander came almost an hour ahead of the planned net session, highlighting his commitment.

"He is a person who can open, bat at No. 4 or 5, and now meet the needs of No. 6. He adapts so easily and is happy with the role given to him," Kotak said.

The ex-Saurashtra cricketer also emphasized the importance of having a reliable No. 6 batter, which has worked wonders for the team.

"When one player keeps coming good in that role, he gets confidence as he is dealing with various types of match situations. That's good for the team.".

“But from my conversations with him, he is willing to take on any responsibility the team requires, and he has been executing that well,” Kotak added.

Looking ahead to the final, Kotak reassured that India isn’t feeling excessive pressure, as the experienced players in the squad have been fostering a composed atmosphere in the dressing room.

"The seniors and young players are constantly having conversations, and that's priceless. Rohit, Virat, Hardik, and Shami and Jadeja, who have played for 15-20 years, give their experiences.

"They converse with the players who have only two or three years of international cricket. Although certain things can only be gained over time, hearing experienced players discuss their decades of learning makes for a wonderful team atmosphere," he added.
