Asian boxing: 5 Indians enter gold medal round

Lalbuatsaihi entered the gold medal round of the women's 64kg after she outplayed Kuwait's Noura Almutairi. The referee stopped the contest in the second round. Pooja Rani got a walkover in the women's 75kg while Anupama entered the final of women's plus-81kg by defeating Mokhira Abdullaeva of Uzbekistan 4-1.

Covid: US experts flag concerns for Olympics 2021, call for WHO help

Writing in a perspective article in the New England Journal of Medicine on Tuesday, they called for an urgent meeting of World Health Organization (WHO) experts to address the crisis. The Summer Olympics are slated to bring together about 11,000 athletes and 4,000 support staff from more than 200 nations in late July. One month later, the Paralympics will play host to 5,000 athletes, plus their support staff.

"There is a travel restriction for Indians due to the second coronavirus wave in India. But we requested the French government to reduce the 10-day quarantine rule for the national swimming team. Since they didn't agree, we had to cancel the tour," Monal Chokshi, secretary general of Swimming Federation of India (SFI), told IANS.
Osaka to boycott media during French Open

Naomi -- the reigning Australian Open champion -- announced the media boycott ahead of the Roland Garros event, which will get underway on Sunday, DPA reports. Under French Open rules, players are required to hold media conferences after each match. Naomi is the world's highest earning female athlete and will be fined by tournament officials should the world number two not take part in news conferences.
