IOA seeks relaxation in Covid tests for athletes, officials returning from Japan

Considering the difficulties in getting the Indian athletes out of the bio-secure bubble of the Olympic Village or hotels where they are staying and getting the Covid test done at a private lab as a nation-wide emergency is imposed in Japan, the Indian Olympic Association president, Narinder Batra, has asked the Indian government to give a one-time relaxation in the rule.

After restricting Welsh Fire to 130/8 in the allotted 100 balls, Northern Superchargers lost four early wickets to get reduced to 19 for four after 18 balls. However, Jemimah, who opened the innings, single-handedly dominated the opposition bowling, hammering 17 fours and a six to take her team past the target with 15 balls to spare. She shared an unbeaten 112-run partnership with Alice Davidson-Richards.
Olympics: Sweden, Britain qualify for women's football quarter-finals

After overpowering gold medal hopeful USA in the opening match, Sweden continued their strong run in the group by defeating Australia. Australia took 2-1 lead in the match but soon the Swedes made it 3-2 in their favour. The Aussies got a chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty. But Swedish goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl saved the penalty before her team extended the lead 4-2, locking a spot in the next round.

The Indians women team then kept the Netherlands at bay in the remaining part of the first quarter and the entire second quarter to go to half-time 1-1. But the Netherlands, the reigning world champions and 2016 Olympics runners-up got control of the match and went on a goal-scoring spree in the second session, scoring four goals to hand India a big defeat.

Daniil Medvedev, representing the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) team since Russia is banned, also won his first-round match against Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan 6-4, 7-6(8). Medvedev will now face India’s Sumit Nagal in the second round. Nagal had beaten Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-4. Among other winners in men’s section were Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

But she found her rhythm quickly to take the first game 11-7. Manika had a smooth run for a 2-0 lead by winning the second game 11-6. After trailing the paddler from Great Britain for much of the third game.

However, India's hope in men's singles, B Sai Praneeth suffered a shock loss against Misha Zilberman of Israel in his first Groupd D match. The Indian pair won the first game before the Chinese Taipei duo bounced back in the second game. The final game was closely fought till the end as the Indians ensured they wouldn't give in. The Chinese Taipei pair seemed to have moved into a decisive lead at 16-13. But Chirag and Satwik refused to budge.
Tokyo Olympics: Saurabh Chaudhary flatters to deceive, finishes 7th in 10m air pistol

The 19-year-old Chaudhary, who had given enough indication that he was in great form to finish on the podium when he shot 586 to go into the finals as the leader, was the second shooter to be eliminated from among the eight finalists, finishing seventh. Chaudhary got things rolling with a 10.1 in the finals, but he finished at the bottom of the pile after the first five shots with a score of 47.7.
