On Thursday, Dennerby was left frustrated by India's inability to score goals in the opening match against Iran, saying, "If you are not scoring goals, you are not good enough". India missed a bagful of chances and were held goalless by a lower-ranked Iran at the DY Patil Stadium. "This game (against Iran) is over. The result is what it is. We can never look back. Now we have to work on our finishing and go at it again in the second match against Chinese Taipei and get the three points," Dennerby said.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced the fixtures for the Men's T20 World Cup 2022, with trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand set to take on Australia in the opening match of the Super 12 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on October 22. Wang Shuang struck a brace of goals and also made two assists while Wang Shanshan and Zhang Xin contributed a goal each in Shui Qingxia's first game as head coach, It was a comprehensive win for the Chinese women's team in a competition that they won last in 2006 and finished runners-up in the previous two editions in 2014 and 2018. China are the highest ranked team in Group A, in which the other teams are India and Iran, and started their campaign in befitting style, though the margin could have been bigger if they had made better use of their dominance.
