Australian head coach Langer resigns after being offered short-term extension

Following the 51-year-old former Australian opener turning down the offer of a short-term contract extension, former all-rounder Andrew McDonald was installed as interim head coach. Langer's fate had been hanging in a balance for the last six months, and while he later guided Australia to its maiden ICC T20 World Cup title triumph in the UAE in November last and helped them win the Ashes 4-0 recently.

Rashid, the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics gold medallist, while categorically denying the allegations of using offensive language, is considering the option to challenge the ban in the court of law. A PHF inquiry committee was constituted to see if Rashid had used abusive language against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also the PHF patron-in-chief. The instructions in this regard were issued by PHF President Brig (Retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar and Secretary Asif Bajwa, said a press release issued on Thursday, the report said.

Friday's session saw all the players in attendance barring Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer and Navdeep Saini, who are all in isolation after testing positive for Covid-19, attended the session. Though the team had a light training session on Thursday, with trainers, Friday's session was the first training session in which the players participated with full intensity. As the ceremony started, the lights dimmed and a 24-second countdown followed. This year, for the first time in Winter Olympics history, each nation had two flag bearers -- one man and one woman.
