Malvika's Upset Victory Propels Her into US Open Semifinals

The win was Malvika's second over Kristy this year as the Scot had retired in the second game of their previous meeting at the Hylo Open. While Malvika lost to Kristy in earlier meetings, she is in great form since the Azerbaijan International challenge earlier this year. Malvika now takes on sixth-seeded Japanese player Natsuki Nidaira in the upcoming semifinal.

Malvika Bansod of India came up with a sensational victory over Kristy Gilmour of Scotland in a nail-biting three-game battle to enter the women's singles semifinals at the US Open Super 300 badminton tournament. The 22-year-old from Nagpur won after going down in the first game 10-21 and took home the win with 21-15, 21-10 against Kristy, 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medalist.

Priyanshu Rajawat of India almost matched Lei Lan Xi of China in a well-fought, quarterfinal contest of men's singles that lasted just over an hour before losing 21-15, 11-21, 18-21.

Treesa Jolly-Gayatri Gopichand's women's doubles campaign ended with a narrow defeat at the hands of Rui Hirokami and Yuna Kato of Japan.
