Former Proteas lead spinner Imran Tahir believes that Yuzvendra Chahal, despite being one of the best wrist spinners in world cricket, has to wait for his opportunity as Kuldeep Yadav has improved as a white-ball exponent. Chahal, known for his leg-break bowling, is currently out of favor and wasn't selected for the last year's ODI World Cup in India. Tahir, however, emphasized that Chahal's absence is not due to poor performance but because Kuldeep has grabbed the opportunities.
Tahir, who considers Kuldeep and his former Proteas teammate Tabraiz Shamsi as the top two wrist spinners globally, expressed his confidence that Chahal will bounce back. The 44-year-old Tahir, who will be playing for Johannesburg Super Kings in the SA20, is the oldest active player in T20 leagues and aims to inspire youngsters with his fitness and longevity.
Tahir, an attacking bowler, intends to stick to his style, emphasizing that putting the ball in the right areas and being clear with plans has been his consistent approach. Playing under Faf du Plessis for Johannesburg Super Kings, Tahir values the camaraderie and mutual understanding with his captain.
He also stressed the importance of explaining to new Johannesburg Super Kings members about the unique CSK family vibe, emphasizing the franchise's commitment to players and their families. Tahir believes that playing for CSK is a unique experience, and he is fully committed to the team's success.
