England's Joe Root has regained the top spot in the ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings, leapfrogging New Zealand's Kane Williamson to claim the top spot. This is the ninth time that Root has held the position as the highest-ranked Test batter.
He added 291 runs in three matches during England's 3-0 series victory against the West Indies. His contributions included a score of 87 in the final Test in Birmingham and his 32nd Test century, at Trent Bridge. He has also become the second England player to surpass 12,000 Test runs, joining Alastair Cook, and now stands as the seventh highest run-scorer in Test history.
Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith, and Rohit Sharma have each moved up one place, while Root's teammate Harry Brook has dropped to seventh after reaching a career-high third position last week.
England captain Ben Stokes, who scored 54 in the first innings and an explosive 57 not out from 28 balls in the second innings in Birmingham, has risen four spots to 30th in the batting rankings.
Mark Wood’s standout performance of 2-52 and 5-40 has earned him a place in the top 20 of the bowling rankings for the first time. England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith’s innings of 95 has propelled him 31 places to 64th, and West Indies’ Kavem Hodge has climbed three spots to 72nd. Zimbabwe's Sean Williams has re-entered the rankings at 33rd after scoring 35 and 40.
In the Test bowling rankings, West Indies' Jayden Seales has reached a career-best 26th position, England’s Gus Atkinson is up to 46th, Zimbabwe's Blessing Muzarabani has re-entered at 50th, and Ireland’s Mark Adair has climbed to 63rd.
In the Men’s T20I Rankings, India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal has returned to 4th place following his 80 runs in the 3-0 series win over Sri Lanka. His opening partner, Shubman Gill, has ascended 16 spots to a career-high 21st position. Former top-ranked India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi is back in the top 10, with Arshdeep Singh moving up four spots to 19th and Washington Sundar rising six places to 40th in the bowling rankings. Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka has climbed 11 places to 15th, and Kusal Perera has surged 40 spots to a tie for 63rd in the batting rankings.
In the Men’s ODI Rankings, Oman’s Aqib Ilyas has moved up five places to 58th among batters, while Kaleemullah has advanced 11 spots to 50th among bowlers. Scotland’s Richard Berrington has risen seven places to 59th among batters following his performances in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2.
