'Jab Mere Saath Haadsa Hua…': Mohammed Siraj Felt Guilty After Dropped Catch, Downloaded 'Believe' Wallpaper on Day 5 for Motivation

His aggressive spell on Day 5 was pivotal as India chased down the last four English wickets, with Siraj picking up three of them and reducing England's tail to splinters with relentless accuracy.

Mohammed Siraj produced one of the most memorable bowling spells of his life at The Oval, taking a clutch five-wicket haul that assisted India in claiming a thrilling 6-run win over England and drawing the series 2-2.

That said, Siraj's match-winning performance wasn't without its flaws. On Day 4, the bowler experienced a moment of crisis when he spilled a key catch of Harry Brook, who had then scored 19. The Prasidh Krishna ball slipped through Siraj's hands as he hurtled towards the boundary. Brook took advantage of the respite, hitting a counter-attacking century that placed India on the back foot.

Despite the expensive mistake, Siraj came back with immense grit, delivering a furious final day spell that completely reversed the match.

Looking back at the missed catch following India's dramatic victory, Siraj spoke freely in a post-match interview with teammate Cheteshwar Pujara.
"Jab mere saath haadsa hua, I thought the match had gone and slipped away. If he had got yesterday, the match would have looked completely different. I thought about it as it was a game-changing moment, but the way we fought back was commendable. When I woke up this morning, I said to myself, I will change the game and googled an emoji of 'believe' and put it on my wallpaper," he revealed.

Siraj set the tone on the last day as well, sending Jamie Smith back in his first over to tilt the balance in India's direction. He then dismissed Jamie Overton, further tightening the grip, and finally sent Gus Atkinson back to secure a historic victory for the visitors.

Speaking about his game plan, the 31-year-old pacer said he adhered to a disciplined line of approach.
The idea was to keep hitting the line and length outside off-stump. I reminded myself not to attempt too much. If I had attempted something else, the pressure on the opposition would have opened up. So I just tried to keep delivering that consistent line and length," he clarified.

With 23 wickets under his belt in the series, Siraj was the top wicket-taker, highlighting his consistency and grit throughout the five games.

Complimenting the team's team spirit, he stated,
"Hats off to all the members of the squad for the manner in which we played throughout the series right from Day 1. Every single match went till the last day, and the manner in which we fought — it was simply great fun to be part of," he added.

Siraj's own redemption story — from a dropped catch to casting a game-altering spell — captured India's fighting heart and determination, securing a place for this win among their most closely fought Test victories of recent times.
