India wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan found himself at the center of a drama while taking part in a strange caught-behind wicket while representing Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday night. The wicket came in the middle of an amazing SRH meltdown in batting.
Kishan, having recently struck his first run off the previous over, attempted to play a pacer Deepak Chahar delivery which was descending on the leg side. The ball was gathered by Mumbai wicketkeeper Ryan Rickelton, but neither of them signaled for a caught-behind. In fact, on-field umpire Vinod Seshan was ready to call it a wide.
Much to the surprise of everyone, Kishan began walking off, suggesting he had released the ball to the keeper. Seshan gestured to him with a finger to send him packing. MI captain Hardik Pandya, who half-way appealed, gave a reassuring slap on the shoulders and helmet of Kishan.
Replays showed that the ball had passed through Kishan's bat, and UltraEdge also didn't have a spike on it, which confirmed the fact that there was no edge. The batter would have known otherwise whether they have hit or not, but since SRH was ninth in the points table at the time, the team had to make the most out of every opportunity on a flat batting surface. Kishan's removal left SRH in danger at 9/2 in the third over.
Commentator Harsha Bhogle wrote about X, and in amazement at the otherworldly action: "You think you have seen it all after all these years and yet I must admit the Ishan Kishan's dismissal leaves me perplexed."
