IPL 2025: Kohli Creates History as First Batter to Smash 1000 Boundaries in Tournament

Kohli mentioned the milestone in style, sending Axar Patel for a six over long-on in the fourth over. His total now reads 721 fours and 279 sixes, making him the IPL's highest boundary-getter and retaining his number one position for most fours. In the chart of six-hitters, he is behind only Chris Gayle (357) and Rohit Sharma (282).

Virat Kohli wrote yet another sparkling chapter in his legendary IPL career on Thursday, emerging as the first player to register 1000 boundaries in the history of the tournament. Royal Challengers Bengaluru legend Kohli achieved the milestone in Match 24 of IPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The RCB star, who has now played in all 18 IPL editions, is also on the verge of achieving another milestone — a half-century away from 100 T20 fifties, behind only David Warner.

Despite Kohli's record-breaking moment, the match belonged to KL Rahul, who delivered a spectacular 93 off 53 balls*, propelling Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket win. Returning to his hometown, Rahul anchored the chase of 164 after DC stumbled to 58/4.

Assisted by Tristan Stubbs (38* off 23), Rahul fashioned a record 111-run partnership for the fifth wicket, the highest DC has posted at that position. His innings consisted of 7 fours and 6 sixes, completing the match with 13 balls left in a commanding manner.

Earlier, RCB had 163/7 after a good start by Phil Salt and Kohli, but Delhi's spinners — Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav — put the screws on in the middle overs. But Rahul's brilliance made what seemed to be a competitive total an easy chase.
