On Tuesday, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) revealed their innovative new jersey constructed of biodegradable materials, a major move in their sustainability and environmental conservation efforts.
This unveiling is part of their larger environmental campaign, 'Runs to Roots,' designed to reinforce the team's commitment to green practices.
The new KKR jersey, unveiled earlier in March, is designed to be 100% biodegradable upon composting, a new gold standard for eco-friendly sportswear for cricket. The jersey design includes the team's three championship stars, commemorating their previous triumphs in the IPL, and a depiction of the three stars of the Gemini constellation as a representation of the team's three IPL championships.
In addition to the environmentally friendly jersey, KKR has also introduced eco-friendly packaging that can be converted into plants when planted in soil and watered. This innovative product reduces waste and has a positive impact on the environment.
In accordance with the jersey's launch, KKR will resume their 'Runs to Roots' campaign during the 2025 season, strengthening the positive work of the drive at the end of the 2024 season.
The eco-friendly jerseys and green packaging can now be purchased by fans in support of their environmental cause on every buy.
As title holders, KKR, under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, will begin their title defense against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens on March 22.
