IPL 2022, Day 40 Highlights: Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Chennai Super Kings by 13 runs

In a tremendous thriller, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Wednesday defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 13 runs. RCB won after 3 back to back losses. After 2020,  it was the first time when RCB defeated CSK. In that match, 9 out of 16 wickets were taken by spinners. Here are the key highlights of the game:

1. CSK won the toss and elected to bowl first against RCB

2. RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis gave a good start. They built a fine 62-run partnership. However, CSK spinners did good bowling and took wickets after the powerplay.
 

3. Moeen Ali returned after the injury and took wickets of both Faf du Plessis (38 runs off 22) and Virat Kohli (30 runs off 33). 
 

4. After the fall of their wickets, young Indian players Rajat Patidar and Mahipal Lomror built a fine 44-run partnership. Rajat Patidar made 21 runs off 15 and Mahipal Lomror made 42 runs off 27.  

5. After the fall of their wickets, Dinesh Karthik finished the innings with an unbeaten 26 runs off 17. 

6. For CSK, Maheesh Theekshana took 3/27 in his 4 overs and Moeen Ali took 2/28 in his 4 overs.
 

7. RCB managed to score 173/8 in their 20 over.

8. Replying to RCB total, CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway started well and built a 54-run partnership. Ruturaj Gaikwad (28 runs off 23) lost his wicket in the very next over after the powerplay. After the fall of his wicket RCB fifth bowler Maxwell took the wickets of Robin Uthappa (1) and Ambati Rayudu (10).
 

9. After the fall of their wickets, Devon Conway and Moeen Ali stayed. They built a 30-run partnership. Devon Conway scored his second half-century back to back. He made 56 runs off 37. Moeen Ali made stayed and made 34 runs off 27.
 

10. Ravindra Jadeja (3), MS Dhoni (2), and Dwaine Pretorius (13) didn't contribute much. 
 

11. For RCB, Harshal Patel (3/35), Wanindu Hasaranga (1/31), Glenn Maxwell (2/22), and Josh Hazlewood (1/19)

12. CSK managed to score 160/8 in their 20 overs and lost the match by 13 runs.

13. Harshal Patel was declared player of the match.
