In a dynamic men's doubles pairing, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty stretched their incredible run, claiming the Thailand Open Super 500 title by defeating China's Chen Bo Yang and Liu Yi in the final on Sunday.
The third seed Indian pair brought out the big guns, hammering their opponents with the easy scoreline of 21-15, 21-15 in a 46-minute crunch match, which went right down to the wire, with the Indian pair coming out on top. This win was another feather in their caps, but more importantly, it comes as a big boost in morale as they look to get ready for the Paris Olympics.
This was the second win of the season for the Asian Games gold medalists, who won the French Open Super 750 in March. They had also narrowly lost in the Malaysia Super 1000 and India Super 750.
“Bangkok has always been special for us, we won our first super series title back in 2019 here and also the Thomas Cup, so it has been a special place and so happy to be here,” Chirag thanked Bangkok.
The win was special for the duo of Satwik and Chirag in many ways, since at the All England Championship, they had a dismal run and missed the Asia Championship because of Satwik's injury. All this means it has been a rough patch for them. And then, their campaign during the Thomas Cup, where they just fell short of winning matches against the top pairs.
But their will and tenacity have born them another remarkable victory that seals their status as one of the most feared men's doubles pairs in the badminton circuit.
