IND vs PAK: Shami Delivers Longest Over by an Indian in Champions Trophy History

Shami took 11 balls to scout a six-ball over as he lost rhythm completely-the longest over bowled by an Indian till now in the tournament, going way past Jasprit Bumrah, who had it read at nine balls to earn the record.

The much awaited clash of the India vs Pakistan match in Champions' Trophy started off on a very shaky note for the Rohit Sharma-led Indian side as it was Mohammed Shami who had a rather unfortunate performance. The bowler experienced in throwing five wides in the very first over creating an unwanted record in this crucial match.

Ironically enough, it was also against Pakistan that Bumrah's lengthy over took place, in the final of the 2017 Champions Trophy between both teams at The Oval, a match that India went on to lose by an enormous margin of 180 runs and failed to bag the second title.

Shami even got a couple of five wides in this contest at the first-ever over of the tournament. As well, but this has not taken away the record for most wides in a single over, which still belongs to Zimbabwe's Tinashe Panyangara for seven in Champions Trophy history.

The Indian pacer apparently looks to suffer from physical problems and requires help of the team physio during his third over: a temporary exit from the ground was witnessed before he returned later in the innings.

Opening bowlers for India, Shami and Harshit Rana, made no impact in their first few overs before the ninth over broke the deadlock when Hardik Pandya removed Babar Azam for 23 runs off 23 balls, which included five boundaries.

Shami enjoyed a great form in India's opening match against Bangladesh, where he finished with figures of 5-53 and was instrumental in the six-wicket victory, besides Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten at 101.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan won the toss and opted to bat first for this match, which is a must-win situation for Pakistan needing to reach the semi-finals after getting out of their first match in Karachi against New Zealand through defeat by 60 runs.
