Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rachin Ravindra, Phoebe Litchfield, and Lauren Bell have been nominated for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year 2023 awards. In the men's category, Jaiswal and Ravindra are joined by Gerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madushanka. In the women's category, Phoebe and Lauren are accompanied by Marufa Akter and Darcey Carter.
Jaiswal, the left-handed opener for India, made a notable Test debut against the West Indies, scoring 171 in Dominica. His partnership of 229 runs with captain Rohit Sharma set the stage for India's victory. Jaiswal also shone in T20Is, notably with an innings of 84 not out against the West Indies in Lauderhill, USA.
Ravindra, the left-handed batting all-rounder from New Zealand, made headlines with impressive performances in ODIs, including a century against Australia. His 578 runs in the Men’s ODI World Cup were the highest for a New Zealand player in a single edition.
Coetzee, the South African fast bowler, became South Africa’s leading wicket-taker in the Men’s ODI World Cup, claiming 20 wickets at an average of 19.80. Madushanka, the left-arm fast bowler from Sri Lanka, stood out with 21 wickets in the ODI World Cup.
In the women’s category, Phoebe Litchfield, an Australian player, began the year with consecutive unbeaten half-centuries in ODIs against Pakistan. She later hit her first century in international cricket against Ireland.
Lauren Bell, the premier pacer in England’s setup, performed admirably across all formats during England’s multi-format Ashes series against Australia. Marufa Akter, the Bangladesh fast bowler, impressed with her performances in the Women’s T20 World Cup and ODIs against India.
Darcey Carter showcased her all-round abilities, making 224 T20I runs and picking up 13 wickets with her off-spin bowling. She was part of the senior team in a T20I tri-series after playing in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
These nominations reflect the outstanding performances of these emerging players in international cricket during 2023.
