Indian wrestler Aman Sehrawat just dropped 4.6 kg in one night to book his berth in the bronze medal match of Paris 2024 Olympics. Immediately after he had lost in the semis, coaches realized that Aman was 4.5 kgs over the limit of the 57 kg freestyle wrestling category.
With only 10 hours to go for the weigh-in, Aman and his team adopted an intense weight reduction strategy of hitting the mats for 90 minutes, spending an hour in a hot bath, treading on the running machine without a break for an hour.
To rid himself of the rest, Aman took five sessions in the sauna and did some light jogging, before finishing with five 15-minute training bursts. By night, he got to weigh 56.9 kg—100 grams below the allowable limit.
In this intense period, Aman kept himself rehydrated with lukewarm water mixed with lemon and honey, combined with some coffee. However, he did not sleep at all. His coach, Virender Dahiya, termed it additional stress brought on by Vinesh Phogat's recent struggle to make the weight by just 100 grams. The efforts finally paid off, and he defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz to win the bronze medal to become India's youngest-ever Olympic medalist.
