GT piled a formidable target of 225 for SRH, scoring 224/6 in their 20 overs. The innings was constructed on the back of Gill's explosive 76 off 38 deliveries, Sudharsan's firebrand 48 off 23 deliveries, and Buttler's gritty 64 off 37 deliveries. The three's terrific performances allowed GT to overwhelm the initial overs, with an opening stand of 87 runs from just 6.5 overs.

In response, SRH got off to a good start but collapsed when the needed rate accelerated. Abhishek Sharma, who made a heroic 74 off 41 balls, kept SRH's hopes alive, but GT bowlers, with Prasidh Krishna's brilliant 2/19 off 4 overs, continued to keep pressure. Mohammed Siraj also came up with significant contributions with the ball, scoring 2/33. SRH could reach only 186/6, which was short of the mark by 38 runs.

The game also had a touch of drama when GT captain Shubman Gill had a heated argument with the umpires when they referred a review call against Abhishek Sharma, although it did not affect the result. As much as Abhishek and Heinrich Klaasen tried, the chances of SRH were practically ruined because of the high required run rate.

GT's good batting effort was complemented by a good bowling effort. After beginning with a difficult powerplay, SRH bowlers could not stem the batting attack of the GT openers. The game shifted in favor of GT when Rashid Khan pulled off a stunning catch to send Travis Head back, and the pressure continued to mount on SRH.
