Expressing their anticipation for the extended series, CA took to X, previously known as Twitter, to declare, "For the first time since 1991-92, Australia and India will compete across a five-Test series this summer. The extended series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be a headline of the 2024-25 home summer schedule set to be released in the coming days."

This development was jointly announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and CA, underscoring their mutual commitment to preserving the esteemed tradition of Test Cricket.

In a statement released by CA, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah emphasized, "The BCCI remains steadfast in its dedication to preserving the rich heritage of Test Cricket, a format we hold in the highest esteem. Our ongoing collaboration with Cricket Australia in extending the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to five Tests underscores our collective commitment to nurturing and elevating Test cricket's significance."

He further elaborated, "This extension echoes our shared vision to amplify the essence of Test cricket and uphold its legacy."

Despite India's dominance in the past four series against Australia, including notable away Test victories in 2018-19 and 2020-21, Australia managed to clinch victory over India in the World Test Championship final in London last year, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the game.

The opening Test of the anticipated five-match series is slated to take place in Perth, with the final schedule yet to be unveiled by CA. However, expectations are that the series will commence in late November this year, promising an electrifying start to the cricketing season.
