Former England captain Michael Vaughan said that the IPL would have better prepared English players for the T20 World Cup than the ongoing series against Pakistan, where several players have just returned from the lucrative league.
Those who ended their stints before the playoffs to join the four-match home series against Pakistan included Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Jos Buttler.
Vaughan shared his thoughts on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, stating, “I think you’re going to miss the trick by sending all their players home. You know, I think Will Jacks, Phil Salt, Jos Butler, in particular, playing in the IPL in the eliminators, pressure, crowd, expectation. I would argue that playing here is better preparation than playing a T20 game against Pakistan."
Following the series against Pakistan, England heads to the West Indies and the USA for the T20 World Cup, commencing June 1 (local time).. As defending champions, England will not have any warm-up matches and will face Scotland in their opening match on June 4.
The first game of the series against Pakistan was abandoned due to rain, but England secured a 23-run victory in the second match at Edgbaston on Saturday, taking a 1-0 lead.
In that game, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field.I would say that playing here is better preparation than playing a T20 game against Pakistan."
After the series with Pakistan, England goes to the West Indies and the USA for the T20 World Cup, starting June 1 (local time).
