Darren Sammy to Lead Windies’ Test Team as All-Format Head Coach in 2025

​​​​​​​Sammy, who was a part of the West Indies squads that won the Champions Trophy in 2004 and the T20 World Cup editions in 2012 and 2016 during his glittering career, has been appointed as the head coach of the West Indies team in all formats. Cricket West Indies announced his appointment as coach of the Test team on Monday.

Former West Indies captain Darren Sammy is ready to take on the job of head coach of the Test team as well, apart from being the head coach of the ODI and T20I teams.

Sammy, who was a part of the West Indies squads that won the Champions Trophy in 2004 and the T20 World Cup editions in 2012 and 2016 during his glittering career, has been appointed as the head coach of the West Indies team in all formats. Cricket West Indies announced his appointment as coach of the Test team on Monday.

The announcement was made by CWI Director Miles Bascombe during the Quarterly Press Conference held in St. Vincent.

Sammuelyman, a two-time ICC Men's T20 World Cup-winning captain, is the head coach of West Indies' white-ball teams since May 2023. He will take on that responsibility for the Test side from April next year, replacing Andre Coley, who steps down as Test head coach at the end of the current World Test Championship cycle for West Indies.

West Indies are currently last in the WTC25 standings with a 24.24% point percentage, ruling them out of the chance to make it into the finale at Lord's next year. They still have a two-match series to go against Pakistan away from home to be played between 16-28 January 2025.

"It's a tremendous honor to be considered worthy of representing the West Indies in any capacity and with the new role he has mapped out, the new direction, " Sammy said during the media conference after the pronouncement.

"I am really excited about the added responsibility and this new journey one I believe myself and my team are going to be prepared for, he added.

The immediate challenge for Sammy is to enhance the team's performance in all three formats of the game.
