'Could have got your favourite dishes made', says PM Modi to Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat

In a meeting with the Indian Olympic contingent, hosted at his residence, PM Modi congratulated Aman for becoming India's youngest Olympic medallist. With a smile, he asked Aman if he had managed to relish some of his favourite dishes after returning from Paris. The 21-year-old from Haryana replied, "I haven't gone home yet, sir."

After the funny exchange on choorma with javelin star Neeraj Chopra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared another such light moment with Aman Sehrawat, who won the bronze medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics.

In response, PM Modi light-heartedly responded, "Humein bolte, hum banwa dete kuch" (You should've told us; we could've made something for you!)." Aman, in his inimitable Haryanvi accent, replied matter-of-factly, "Ghar jake choorma toh khaange hi" (Once I'm home, I'll definitely have choorma).

Sehrawat, who lost his parents at the age of 10, trains and lives at Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi. He sealed the bronze medal with a 13-5 win over Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico at the Champ-de-Mars Arena to ensure that India's wrestling medal run at the Olympics remained intact from the Beijing Games in 2008. He is now part of the elite Indian Olympic medallist list comprising Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Dahiya, and Bajrang Punia.

Earlier, PM Modi had shared another light moment with silver medalist Neeraj Chopra before the athletes left for the Paris Games. PM Modi had humorously quipped, "Mera choorma abhi tak aaya nahi," raising the room to peals of laughter.

Neeraj replied with a shy smile, saying, "Is baar Haryana wala choorma khilayenge sir, pichli baar Delhi ka cheeni wala khaya tha" (this time I will treat you with choorma from Haryana; last time we had the sugary one from Delhi). PM Modi showed eagerness for homemade choorma, saying, "Mujhe tumhari maa ke haath ka choorma khana hai" (I want to savor choorma made by your mother). Later, Neeraj's mother, Saroj Devi promised to send a special batch of choorma for the Prime Minister.
