Contemplating Resignation: Shaheen Afridi's Decision as T20 Captain

A source closely associated with Shaheen revealed his disappointment, highlighting the lack of communication from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the national selectors regarding their plans concerning the captaincy and coaching appointments.

Expressing discontent over being excluded from discussions regarding Pakistan cricket and his future as T20 skipper, fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is contemplating relinquishing his captaincy role.

A source closely associated with Shaheen revealed his disappointment, highlighting the lack of communication from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the national selectors regarding their plans concerning the captaincy and coaching appointments.

"Shaheen is rightfully dismayed. As the national T20 captain, he expected transparency from the board and selectors. Even if there were intentions to replace him, he anticipated being informed with reasons behind such decisions," the source disclosed.

Shaheen's disappointment grew when he learned of discussions held between the PCB chief, national selectors, and Babar Azam regarding the T20 World Cup, coaching appointments, and captaincy, without his involvement.

"The absence of communication has led Shaheen to contemplate stepping down voluntarily. Some of his close associates have advised him to distance himself from the turmoil caused by the Board," the source added.

Shaheen was appointed as T20 captain after the World Cup in India last November, during Zaka Ashraf's tenure as PCB chairman. His leadership credentials were recognized following his successful stint as the captain of Lahore Qalandars, leading them to consecutive titles in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

However, Shaheen's captaincy faced challenges as Pakistan lost the T20 series in New Zealand 1-4, and Lahore Qalandars struggled, finishing at the bottom of the PSL table.

Currently undergoing training at Kakul under Army supervision, Shaheen is expected to engage in candid discussions with senior players including Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan, Shadab Khan, and Fakhar Zaman regarding the captaincy issue before making a final decision.
