Cincinnati Open: Carlos Alcaraz apologizes for racket-smashing incident after early exit

It was during the third set that Carlos Alcaraz let out his pent-up frustrations by hitting his racket several times on the court, wrecking it. The world No. 3 ATP lost to 37-year-old Gael Monfils in the score of 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

He reflected on his performance, saying, "I felt that it was the worst match that I have ever played in my career," as he fought for the first time since his silver medal at the Paris Olympics. He went ahead and said: "I've been practising really well. I was feeling great. But I couldn't play. I want to forget it and try to move on to New York.

His next major tournament will be the U.S. Open, starting in New York on August 26.
