Cricket Australia (CA) has initiated an investigation into an incident involving dynamic all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was rushed to the hospital after a late-night party in Adelaide last week. The flamboyant player was reportedly out drinking and attending a concert by 'Six and Out,' a band featuring former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee, when he began to feel unwell. Maxwell played a crucial role in Australia's successful World Cup campaign in India last October-November.
In response to the incident, Cricket Australia issued a statement saying, "Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information," as reported by 'ESPNcricinfo.'
Although Maxwell recently stepped down as captain of the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL) after failing to reach the finals, CA clarified that the incident is unrelated to his exclusion from the 13-man squad facing the West Indies in a three-match ODI series from February 2 to 6. The decision was reportedly based on Maxwell's individual management plan following the conclusion of the BBL, and he is expected to return for the T20 series.
Maxwell, who had faced a series of injuries last year, including a concussion during the ODI World Cup in India and a broken leg in 2022, was discharged from the hospital after a brief stay and has already resumed training. Cricket Australia made it clear that no further comments would be provided at this time regarding the incident.
