' I am completely retired from wrestling': Brij Bhushan Singh on WFI suspension controversy

Brij Bhushan Singh, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, clarified that he has retired from wrestling and has cut ties with the sport.

Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has distanced himself from the sport and stated that he is not involved in the recent suspension of the newly elected WFI body by the Sports Ministry. The ministry suspended the new WFI body led by Sanjay Singh over the 'hasty' announcement to hold nationals.

Brij Bhushan Singh, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, clarified that he has retired from wrestling and has cut ties with the sport. He emphasized that decisions and discussions with the government will be handled by the newly elected officials of the federation. Singh expressed that he had worked for 12 years for the welfare of wrestlers and stated that time will reveal the outcome of his efforts.

"I have worked 12 years for the wrestlers. Time will tell if I have done justice. I am completely retired from wrestling. I have cut ties with wrestling. Now decisions and talks with the government will be done by the elected people of the federation," Brij Bhushan Singh told the media persons.

Regarding the choice of venue for the proposed games and Sakshi Malik's criticism, Singh explained that Nandini Nagar, Gonda, was chosen as no other federation agreed to organize the tournaments on short notice. He mentioned that the decision was made in haste, and the state federations opted to start the process of sports for the U-15 and U-20 categories before the end of the year.

This development comes after earlier protests by top Indian wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat, who had raised allegations against Brij Bhushan Singh, accusing him of harassing several young junior wrestlers.
