The Australian Open title holders prevailed 7-5, 6-4 in a little over an hour after the rain delay. Seeded second, the couple was intuitive to become athletic excellence in command over the match to win and march into the first round of the grass court championship. Bopanna and Ebden face Germany's Hendrik Jebens and Constantin Frantzen in their next match on Thursday. But Sumit Nagal's campaign ended early as he lost in the first round of the men's doubles with Serbian partner Dusan Lajovic, conceding easy points against Spain's Pedro Martinez and Jaume Munar in straight sets at 2-6, 2-6. Earlier, Nagal had also ended his singles campaign, losing in the first round on his maiden full-fledged main draw appearance at Wimbledon, to the USA's Jack Sock. Meanwhile, N Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri were to open their men's doubles campaign later in the day against the fourth seeded Serbia and El Salvador pair of Mate Pavic and Marcelo Arevalo.
