IPL 13: Betting racket busted, 17 held in south Delhi raid

The betting module included six sets of walkie-talkies to communicate and keep a tab on the movement of police.

Delhi Police on Saturday arrested 17 people on charges of gambling and betting, including on IPL cricket matches, in south Delhi's Devli village.

These arrests were made during a late-night raid on Friday and police found the accused people betting on the cricket match between Delhi Capitals (DC) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) during the IPL Season 2020 and gambling through various other methods like charts and playing cards. The betting module included six sets of walkie-talkies to communicate and keep a tab on the movement of police.

Betting module busted in South Delhi: Key Points

•    17 People were arrested for betting in Devli village.

•    Police seized mobile phones, TV sets with DTH connection for viewing live cricket matches, a wireless Internet router, Rs 81,000 in cash, 10 decks of playing cards, five gambling charts, and gambling chits from the accused.

•    Three people were given appointed to check the scores of cricket matches and inform betters for revising rates of betting.

•    Others Members were tasked with gambling and betting through various other means.

•    A case has been registered under Sections 3, 4, 9, and 55 of the Delhi Public Gambling Act, 1955 at the Neb Sarai police station.
