Saikia articulated his dismay in that such comment from a political leader was all the more wrong considering that Team India was training for the semi-final of one of the important ICC tournaments. He was aghast with the comments and stressed the demand for respect especially at a juncture where the Indian cricket team was having a good time. He additionally stated that BCCI would conduct an inquiry on the issue.

The comments attracted a lot of criticism from all sides, and the Congress party then ordered Shama to remove her post.

India is now unbeaten in the tournament and will face Australia in a replay of the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, which India lost.
