According to the PCB's announcement, Babar Azam's appointment as the captain for white-ball cricket (ODIs and T20Is) came following a unanimous recommendation from the PCB's selection committee. Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi officially appointed him to lead the Pakistan men's cricket team in these formats.

This decision comes after Babar had stepped down from the captaincy last year, following Pakistan's failure to progress to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup held in India.
