Arshdeep Singh Nominated For ICC T20I Cricketer Of The Year Award
Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh has been nominated for the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year award following a stellar season in which he emerged as the joint highest wicket-taker and played a pivotal role in India's T20 World Cup triumph.
The 25-year-old will be competing for the prestigious honor with Pakistan's Babar Azam, Australia's Travis Head, and Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza-all of whom have been some of the outstanding performers this year.
Singh, a left-arm pacer, was the key player for India in their T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados. He ended the year as the joint highest wicket-taker in T20Is, with 36 wickets in 18 matches at an average of 13.5.
His tally was the second-best by an Indian pacer in T20Is in a calendar year, behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 37 wickets in 2022.
Singh claimed 17 wickets in the T20 World Cup and equaled Afghanistan's Fazalhaq Farooqi for most wickets in the tournament.
In the final, he played a key role in thwarting South Africa's run chase of 177 as he got rid of some of their main batsmen - Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock - early on. In the pressure-packed 19th over, he leaked just four runs, taking the onus of getting more runs from South Africa, thereby paving his way for victory.
The ICC Awards 2024 winners will be announced on late January 2025.
