It took Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj on Friday the status of the third to ever take all ten wickets in a Ranji Trophy innings. This makes him only the sixth Indian bowler to manage this astonishing feat in first-class cricket.
Kamboj achieved this feat by taking 10 wickets for 49 runs in 30.1 overs, as Haryana bowled out Kerala for 291 on the third day of their match at Chaudhary Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium in Lahli. This performance also helped Kamboj reach 50 wickets in his 19th first-class appearance.
Kamboj now joins an exclusive league of bowlers who have achieved the feat of completing a ten-wicket bag in a Ranji Trophy match. The other two members of this exclusive list are none other than Premangsu Chatterjee, who had taken 10/20 in the match between Bengal and Assam in the same season in the year 1956, and Pradeep Sunderam, who had accomplished the task in the match between Rajasthan and Vidarbha in the 1985 season when he had taken 10/78.
Kamboj finished day three after claiming eight wickets on day two. In no time, he sent back Basil Thampi and Shoun Roger to wrap up an astonishing ten-wicket haul. Earlier this September at the Duleep Trophy matches played in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, Kamboj had claimed 8/69, making him only the third pacer to register an eight-wicket haul in the tournament after Debasis Mohanty (10/46) and Ashoke Dinda (8/123).
From Karnal, Kamboj first hit the headlines with 17 wickets in just 10 matches and was instrumental to Haryana's Vijay Hazare Trophy win last season. He then played three games for Mumbai Indians during IPL 2024. There, he picked up two wickets.
Kamboj was recently a part of India 'A' for the Emerging Men's Asia Cup in Oman. He picked four wickets from three matches there only. In international cricket, only Jim Laker, Anil Kumble, and Ajaz Patel could achieve the coveted distinction of taking all 10 wickets in the entire Test innings.
