Left-handed opening all-rounder Abhishek Sharma and wrist-spinner Varun Chakaravarthy have leaped big steps in the new update of the ICC Men's T20I rankings issued on Wednesday, just after a 4-1 T20I series win over England.
Abhishek recently produced the best innings of his budding international career by smashing a scintillating 135 in the fifth and final match of the series at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and has shot up a staggering 38 places to be at second on T20I Rankings for batters.
Abhishek is now the first Indian men's player to make the highest individual score in the shortest format of the game and is just 26 rating points behind the top-ranked Australia left-handed opener Travis Head. Tilak Varma is third in the batters' rankings and skipper Suryakumar Yadav fifth, thus keeping the Indian representation in the top five.
On the other hand, Chakravarthy has moved up three places to equal second position in the men's bowlers rankings on the back of his 14 wickets and Player of the Series effort against England.
Other Indians who benefited from the series are Hardik Pandya, who moved up five places to equal 51st, and Shivam Dube, who jumped 38 places to 58th in rankings for T20I batters. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi also gained four places to sixth position in bowlers rankings after picking five wickets in the series against England.
West Indies left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein regains his spot at the top of the Men's T20I bowlers following last week when he lost it to England leg-spinner Adil Rashid. Meanwhile, in the wake of a big win for Australia over Sri Lanka at Galle, the players of the tourists have made big jumps in the men's Test rankings.
Stand-in skipper Steve Smith has moved three places up to fifth on the rankings for Test batters after his 35th Test century, while opener Usman Khawaja has gained six places to rise to 11th position after making his highest Test score of 232.
In the Test bowling rankings, the veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon rose two spots to jump to sixth overall while the left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc has climbed two places to 12th following their effort in the first Test at Galle.
